Donna J. Cherel

Donna Cherel has twenty-six years of experience in direct response fundraising and marketing, specializing in conservation organizations. Donna has worked with numerous organizations to increase membership, develop strategic operating plans, grow net revenue and engage partner organizations.
Prior to BCC, Donna served as the Vice President for Constituency Development for the National Audubon Society, Vice President and Director of Membership and Interactive Marketing for The Nature Conservancy; Vice President and Director of Membership for The Ocean Conservancy, and as Fundraising Associate for Common Cause. While serving as Vice President for Constituency Development at the National Audubon Society, Donna re-engineered the membership program to increase the number of members and net revenue.
As Vice President and Director of Membership and Interactive Marketing for The Nature Conservancy, Donna more than doubled membership to over 1 million. She also tripled net membership revenue to $25 million, increased gifts of $10,000+ four-fold, launched an Internet site raising over $1 million, and played a leadership role in planning TNC’s $1 billion capital campaign as well as its five-year marketing strategic plan. In addition, Donna increased membership of The Ocean Conservancy from 17,000 to 110,000 and more than tripled operating income.
Donna holds a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology/Archaeology from George Washington University in Washington, DC. She is a member of the Direct Marketing Association of Washington and a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals. She also serves on the Board of Directors for The Virginia Music Hall of Fame and Museum.
